Financial Planning

“The definition of genius is taking the complex and making it simple.” ~ Albert Einstein

At Coastline, we know how much worry and stress financial matters can cause. We also know that most of that stress comes from the unknown: not knowing where you are, where you want to go, and how to get there. For many clients those questions center around retirement, but for you it may be your children or grandchildren’s education, or maybe it is saving for those luxuries that require some planning like a vacation home, or preserving what you have worked so hard to earn so that you can create a legacy for the next generation.

Our job is to help you answer those questions. To do that we have a process that focuses on you and your goals, not a canned offering developed by someone who has never met you and knows nothing about your family and your situation. We will deliver a tailored, comprehensive plan, with actionable items to help you accomplish your short term and longer-term goals. This is a living document, that will evolve and change as your needs and goals change, and we can be there every step of the way to help.

Understand
The most important thing to us when working with clients is understanding their personal goals, unique financial situation, previous investment experience, and their comfort with risk. We will start this process by asking you to share some information about yourself and your family. We also call this the “Getting Organized” stage, because as we collect this information, we will be helping you organize it for the future. Know that the more open you are during this phase, the more personalized your plan will be.

Design
In this second step, we’ll analyze the information you’ve shared with us and design a plan intended to help you reach your goals. This step may involve collaboration with other specialists or your existing professionals, such as your CPA or attorney. We’ll present our recommendations to you in a comprehensive plan document, answer your questions, consider alternatives and outline the steps we need to take to implement your plan.

Implement
Once you are completely comfortable with your plan and the objectives we want to accomplish in the near and long term, now is the time to put your plan into action. If you chose to have us handle the investment management duties for you, this is where we will help you select the appropriate account types, choose investment vehicles, and design a customized portfolio tailored to accomplish your specific goals. You may also choose to take the delivered plan and action items and implement them on your own.

Manage
If you choose, you can maintain a financial planning relationship beyond the delivery of the initial plan. In this stage, we will monitor the performance of your plan and your progress towards your goals, suggesting adjustments when they are needed. We will touch base with your regularly, with scheduled calls and meetings at a frequency you choose, and on an as needed basis. As always, you remain a key player in the process, letting us know of any significant changes in your life, financial or otherwise. We want to be your partners, quarterbacking your financial life, so you can spend more time and energy on the things important to you, and less time worrying about whether you are on track financially.
